I never thought I would need a hip replacement.

I never thought I would have breast cancer.

I never thought I would have to give up my horses.

I never thought I would be betrayed and expendable.

I never thought I would lose four brothers.

I never thought I would get old.

I never thought I could suffer this much.

I never thought my heart could be this broken.

I never thought I would feel this lost and alone.

I never thought my heart would mend.

But…I see God and love in the small things around me.

When I look into my dogs’ eyes.

When I see a new bird on my feeder.

When I see a happy post on FB from a friend.

When I wake up and go to make coffee, and feel joy in my cozy little house.

When I visit and have a good laugh with a friend.

When my garden starts to wake up after a long, sleepy winter.

When I wake up warm and sleepy and comfortable in my own house.

When I bite into something delectable…mmm

When I walk in nature with my dogs…

When I feel competent.

My heart is healing, I am healing. I want to feel love and be loved.

Today I am filled with gratitude.

Gratitude for my suffering and gratitude for my happiness.

Grateful that I can appreciate the life I have.

 I want to share this gratitude, especially with those like me, who are everyone.
